First of all, I misspoke when I said inside diameter when I meant to say
inside circumference.

I broke two wires during disassembly - the Service Manual for the CCR-82
does not address the need to slide out the battery clips from the battery
compartment in order to allow sufficient movement of the main circuit board.
Nor does it mention that the black wire connected to the negative spring
terminal of the battery compartment is glued (i.e., staked) along its length
in three places to the plastic base.

After the main circuit board and the volume control and its small circuit
board were unfastened from the plastic base, I found residue of the sub belt
on the plastic pulleys of its circuit. As yet, I've not removed this
residue -- perhaps I'll apply a solvent that is safe to use on the plastic
pulleys but is effective in dissolving the residue on them.

I removed the belt for the tape position counter and then I tied a cord
snuggly around its track and cut it in order to lay it out and measure its
length (i.e., the track circumference). The track circumference measured
3.8125". The existing belt dimension is .7mm thick by .7mm wide with an
inside circumference of 3.75", which is about 98% of the track
circumference. This suggests that the belt for the tape position is
somewhat stretched but does not yet need replacement. Nevertheless, I'll
replace it because the required disassembly effort to get at it has been
expended.

I placed an order with Studio Sound Electronics for three belts:

* SBO7.2 for the Main belt

* SBO4.7 for the Sub belt

* SBO3.7 for the Tape Position Counter belt

Ron;

I rebuilt two CCR-82's about three years ago. The belts are available from
Studio Sound Electronics in Indiana. Their web site still appears to be
active:

www.studiosoundelectronics.com

These are square belts instead of round, but they work fine. You need to
order:

SBM5.3 Belt $2.00

SBM8.0 Belt $2.00

They charged me a dollar for shipping.

If the belts have turned to black goo it is very difficult to clean the
pulleys. The manual has good instructions and an exploded view of the
chassis.

If your time is worth anything at all it's probably better to pick up an
electronic voice recorder on eBay :-)

A rare misspeak by Ron. I thought that I detected a disturbance in The

Great info, Ron.
I think you measured your old belt at 8" circumference, not dia.
Please let us know how it goes.

Bob
