I finally found what I think is the ROM

original NEC PC-8201, the Japanese version. I found it amongst a collection
of MAME videogame ROMs that included random, irrelevant printer firmware
files, so who knows if this is correct? Well, perhaps *you* do...
If you have a PC-8201 (not the PC-8201*A*), would you please try running
this program:

I'm hoping it will ID your machine as a PC-8201 quickly and then after a
few seconds add the word "Japan". If it says "Unknown", then please send me
the CRC16 checksum (a four digit hexadecimal number) that is printed on the
screen.

P.S. The red and silver PC-8201s were sold only in Japan. If yours is
beige, it could be either, but it should say which on the front.
