I have seen telephone handsets that you can buy that either plug into
your cellphone or operate over bluetooth so that you can have that
"old-timey" vibe when you are talking on your cell phone.

The handset is of the type that used to rest in the cradle of an old
wired phone that you plugged into the wall.  It should be the perfect
form-factor for the acoustic coupler you speak of.

Unfortnuately I don't have either device but I definitely have seen the
telephone handset that I described.  Good luck. :-)
