Look, as far as I can see in the git repository, this syncout primitive is more or less what I was looking for. Especially if, as Gary suggests in a separate e-mail, it can be extended to even configure the syncline format. However unfortunately what I have to do with m4 will be relevant only this year and possibly at the beginning of 2010. My interest in this does not (yet) expand further in time, and meanwhile I have to share this work with people working on environments when non-existing versions of m4 cannot be installed. So as sexy as it looks like, until this features makes it through m4 1.5 or 1.6, I can't afford to even consider it. Cheers,
