Interesting... I bet that's due to your using an extremely recent version of
scons.
Please try changing the line:
env.Append(ENV = { 'M5_PLY' : Dir('ext/ply') })
to:
env.Append(ENV = { 'M5_PLY' : str(Dir('ext/ply')) })
in the SConstruct file and let us know if that works.
If you continue to run into problems you might want to downgrade to an
earlier version of scons.
