Hi Alice--

Wellsirreee, it sounds like an interesting dream
indeed, and money always seems to be the
hitch...especially when the discussion turns to
selling MAIL ART (gasp!) or trying to make money from
it directly.  I agree that mail artish postcards for
sale, artistamps for sale, etc, could go a little ways
to making the financial end work, but people get so
touchy when they mail art to someone for free and then
that person sells it for actual cash.  I know that's
NOT what you're suggesting, but you're going to hear
about it eventually...

There are purists out there.

I think once I've dropped my stuff in a mailbox to go
off to visit someone else , it's no longer MINE at
all.  If I don't like what someone does with it, like
sell it or alter it or burn it, I won't send them more
of my version of mail art.

I understand the desire to share the joys, marvels and
generous oddities of mail art (you were here for the
Mail Art Extravaganza, so you KNOW i do!), but the
only way to truly experience it is to jump in and mail
stuff, right?  The taste viewers in a gallery would
get might inspire them to try it...if they get it.  If
you can swing it, go for it.  I've thought about such
a thing, but thought that the main money maker would
have to be the primary space--a bookstore, coffee
shop, frame shop, whatever--to support the mail art
gallery.  You know that Picasso Gaglione had a pretty
good thing going with the gallery he had attached to
Stamp Francisco when he owned that, right?  He might
have insights for you.

Just rambling on in the middle of the night,
ex posto facto

p.s.  I will contribute lots of bucks!
