For the most part you’re right.
Though, each company would have a list of their webpage with the names of
phones that would get an upgrade. Those lists get updated periodically, so
it’s up to the individual to check on those webpages to see if their phones
would get an upgrade.
Note: if a person has not gotten android phone as of yet, and still looking
to get an android it would be wised to look into getting a phone that can
potentially get upgraded, in the future.

i should think that there are alot of phones that wouldn't be upgraded to
4.0 because 4.0 cause it is a much biger OS and most older phones wouldn't
get it. alot of phones didn't even get honey cone so i would suspect that
alot of phones wouldn't get icecream sandwitch. so with that being said,
how can a person get a phone that would be upgraded in future to an OS that
