With ics, it is much harder to do that. They cahnged the stuff
under accessibility. As far as making ma is set as default, if tapping
home brings up a list of optionfs for the home launcher, tapping ma, and
always sets it as the default home screen. try pulling your battery and
that will shut down your phone. If replacing it after two minutes lets
you power up with speech, then it is okay. If not, with sighted
assistance, have them go to system settings,(not ma settings)
accessibility.and make sure touch to explore is checked and ma is turned
on . Go to voice inputs and outputs and make sure you choose the
default speech engine, assuming you are using something other than the
stock MA voice. Also go to ma settings and under advanced and voice,
make sure the voice you want to use is selected. Finally under MA
settings, go to screen reader, and make sure speak system notifications
is checked. Now pressing and holding the power button will bring up a
list of options, including shut down your phone. good luck.
