Hi Bill, The Apple TV has both wi-fi and an eathernet port, hence you probably would not attach it to your iMac. Others who actually have the device may be able to assist further but I suspect that since it will play your content on iTunes, if you add old tv shows to your collection you can play them using the Apple tv.
