Mike:

If you have 4GB of ram set the ram for Windows at 3GB.

Now when you update the ram to 8GB and if your OS is 64Bite, then you can 
update your ram to 6GB or however much you want.  I of course wouldn't allocate 
to 8GB.  smile

If only using 32Bit than for the most part, Windows doesn't recognize anything 
over 3.3GB.
