Hello Jonathan, The book I'm reading on my iPhone is one I put into epub format myself. I don't know whether that makes a difference. Also, the voice is Daniel.
I'll have to try with a different book, but this wasn't happening before the upgrade with this same book. I was pleased that iBooks had remembered my place in the book through the upgrade.
