Hello Margaret,

There are a number of different ways to do what you've requested, but I'll give
what I believe is the most basic method.

1. To attach a file to an email that you are in the process of composing,
select "Attach Files" from the File menu. This will open a standard file
browser window allowing you to locate and add your attachment.
2. To open attachments from an email message you are currently reading, choose
"Save Attachments..." from the File menu. Again, this will open a standard file
browser window allowing you to save the attachment wherever you prefer. Once
the attachment has been saved, you can use Finder to browse and open the files
as you normally would.

HTH,
Bryan
