Don't worry. iTunes backs up your phone before the update and restores
it afterwards.

Hi, So here is the first of my questions. I'm planning on updating my
IPhone4 to the latest version of the operating system IOS5. I currently
don't use ITunes very much as I find it difficult to use on my Windows
system. currently I have ITunes set up to only backup my phone and do
nothing else.

I'm concerned that if there is a problem during the upgrade process I
might lose my contacts and apps. What should I do to protect myself from
this possibility?
Cheers
