Hi, Not sure this helps, but from searching the web, it seems as though people who lose this function generally have it happen when they run an iTunes update. This feature, like so many of the iTunes additions, first existed as an AppleScripts for iTunes suggestion from the site that Doug Adams run, I believe. It basically uses the support for "folder actions" to automatically run the AppleScript with the associated folder. My guess is that when an iTunes update was applied, somehow the association with the correct folder was broken.
It should be possible to reimplement this, either by using the AppleScript that Doug Adams originally wrote (before Apple added this feature to iTunes), or else, by composing a 2-command Automator Workflow that handles this. I'm not running Lion, though, so I can't check how this would work under that system. Maybe somebody else could give this a shot? I know people have reported getting this function back by rebuilding their iTunes libraries, but that seems too drastic, and potentially loses your playlists.
