You can disable mission control keystrokes in system preferences. I think control left arrow brings up mission control by default. On the Mac though you tend to use the option and command key rather than the control key. The control key is used in conjunction with function keys to access parts of the screen
You do not use the control key for text reading or navigation. So command up arrow will generally take you to the top of a document. Command right and left arrow will take you to the beginning and end of a line. In finder option shift down arrow will select files to the bottom of a column. .To navigate one word at a time use option and either the left or right arrow and so on. The control key is rarely used in the same way as in Windows. If you are trying to read a paragraph at a time then press VO P to read paragraph and then VO page down to read subsequent paragraphs.
