Listers,

        I whish I had understood this message issue and solution better.  I 
would have saved a lot of time.  This same thing happened to me.  Each time I 
updated to Mountain Lion the messages app did not work.  For some reason it 
insists on starting Google talk, or Jabber or whatever.  Once that is turned 
off it seemes to work fine. 

Look out for this future Mountain Lion updaters.
