Hi, Debbie. You couldn't pick a better group. While I use "the other operating system" more than Apple, I believe that's (Apple) the way to go. And with a group such as this one, you can't go wrong.

Thank you very much for your welcoming email. I'm fairly confident with the

the list.

Hi Debbie

I didn't answer your query, but as the list owner I'd like to make sure
you're fully aware of what you can do. No matter how basic, how silly or
anything else like that your question may be, you'll never be flamed for
asking it on this group. We pride ourselves in as much as we are always,
absolutely and unconditionally always, willing to help you with your quest
to learn to use Mac OS and, if appropriate, iOS as well.

So please feel absolutely free to ask your questions. We are here for you
and those like you, and we are always more than happy to help. By "We", I
mean the collective membership of this group.

Our very best wishes for your quest to learn Mac OS, and may you meet all of
your aspirations, as so many of us have and do by gaining from this group.

Gordon

Hello Debbie,

A DMG file is a disk image. When you get one of these, you need to open it
with Cmd-o.

You'll then find a file browser window. Interact with this and if it
contains a PKG file, open that with Cmd-o also. If it contains an APP file,
just copy it to your Applications folder.

Generally, on opening a PKG, you'll be in an installer. Just follow the
instructions and you'll be fine. When it asks for your username and
password, these are the ones for your user on your computer, i.e. the ones
you use at login.

The Installer will put the application in the right place for you, so don't
worry that you can't see it once the installation has finished.

Cheers,

Anne
