I have exactly the same problem with Mail in Lion so it appears to be a long
running bug.
It is annoying but I just have to save attachments and look at them that
way.
I had hoped that this would have been sorted by the release of Mountain
Lion.

Subject: ML mail app error.

When I do a command y on a highlighted message with an attachment in Mail
and go to the "Open file" button, I get an error, mail crashes and I am
asked to reopen it. This is repeatable on multiple attachment messages and
happens each and every time. Any suggestions or knowledge of this bug?
