Hi Stuart,

The easiest way to access man pages (from your Mac) is to use an app named 
Bwana.  It's freeware, compatible with VoiceOver in Mac OS X up through 
Mountain Lion, and downloadable from:
http://www.bruji.com/bwana/

And it displays the man pages through Safari.  If you want examples of some 
other VoiceOver-friendly ways to access Terminal man pages, take a look at this
