That's how it would be done in "that other spreadsheet application". It
might be that formulas in Numbers aren't started with an equal sign as they
are in, well, you know...
The help system for numbers probably has something to say about formulas.

maybe the formulas in pages are different then the ones in the equivalent
in the suite that shall not be named.

That is basically all that shows up though in H3. It's not sending the
formula to the background, and populating the cell with the correct sum
of the two cells.
