Hello Dónal and Others,

One place that I check for information about updating older Macs in terms of
hardware and/or operating systems is the Low End Mac site:
http://lowendmac.com/

They have articles about keeping up the performance of older Macs, and reports
of how people installed newer operating systems on older machines. They also
keep a deals section which tracks the best prices they've seen for buying older
model Macs.

I usually use the search box or run a Google Search including the site name and
the topic I'm interested in, since I don't often read the site. But as an
example of the kind of thing that might be of interest, there was an article
from last September about rejuvenating an old 2008 MacBook by upgrading to an
SSD drive with Mountain Lion, and details about where he bought the drives from
and at what price, how he went about putting over the new operating system.
They do have annoying ad pop up windows now at the site, though.

HTH. Cheers,

Esther
