Updates to the Kindle app on the Mac and PC are separate, and quite different from the iOS Kindle app release. The iOS Kindle app has had several updates in the period between the last update of the Kindle app for the Mac. You'll have to wait for a separate release for the Mac. No word of how long that will take.
