Hi All, The other top OCR app for iOS devices, ABBYY's TextGrabber+Translator, showed up on sale a few hours ago at $1.99 for this weekend only. I would get both this app and Prizmo. They use different OCR engines, and both support multiple languages (TextGrabber supports more languages than Prizmo, so I'd use it for Russian OCR in preference to Prizmo, and you can set it for up to 3 different languages on the same page.). Prizmo accepts PDF image files as input, which is pretty unique among iOS OCR apps, and also does a better job if you have images mixed in with the text.
I've used both these apps freehand, but it takes a learning curve and a lot of practice to do this well without vision. However, it's quite doable with a portable device like the StandScan Pro to rest your iPhone on and hold it flat at the correct distance from the page you want to image, and to supply lighting. And here is the app store link for TextGrabber: • TextGrabber + Translator (on sale for $1.99, usually $5.99) by ABBYY https://itunes.apple.com/app/textgrabber/id438475005 Here's the link to Janet's June AccessWorld review of TextGrabber that also provides information on its use with the StandScan Pro: http://www.afb.org/afbpress/pub.asp?DocID=aw140603 And here again is the app store link to Prizmo: Prizmo - Scanning, OCR, and Speech ($4.99 on sale, usually $9.99) by Creaceed https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/prizmo-scanning-ocr-speech/id366791896?mt=8 HTH.
