Hi All, I'm posting details about a MacUpdate Bundle that is on sale for the next day and a bit. This might be of particular interest to users who want to read Windows formatted hard drives from their Macs.
Some of the interesting apps in the bundle are Cocktail, a very good maintenance app for the Mac that lets you clean, repair and optimize your Mac (lists for $19), ExpanDrive, a GUI-based FTP/SFTP application for transferring files (lists for $39.95), and Paragon 2-in-1, a pair of utilities that lets you read NTFS-formatted Windows drives on your Mac and HFS+ formatted Mac drives on your Windows machine (lists for $29.90). (Note that I have no experience using the Paragon software; I have heard several VoiceOver users mention the utility for reading NTFS drives from the Mac, and one person has said they have used the application for reading Mac drives from Windows. Other list members use the present version of ExpanDrive 3, and may comment. I've used the previous version of ExpanDrive (now I use the Transmit app for FTP), and it had some nice features like the ability to automatically reconnect to servers when you moved to a new location, which was nice with a laptop. There are some apps that are clearly visually oriented, like iStopMotion. The Anonymizer and Backup services might be accessible. You can usually download a trial bundle from the web site to decide on before purchasing. They also let you designate licenses for individual apps to be sent to another user (in case you already have one of the apps in the bundle, or are not interested in its functions.) The one important point about MacUpdate discount promos and bundles is that you do need to create a login account, and that requires a one-time negotiation of a CAPTCHA (although someone did tell me about getting in touch with the site managers for help with the account creation.). Your login account contains a history of your purchases with receipts, activation codes, and links to the software download that you can return to at any time.
