I have decided to give iTunes another go but am still struggling with the
basics. I know others have struggled with this on this list.

I am trying to sort by Artist then album and play the Track of that album. I
can manage this fine on My iPhone but on a Computer whether Mac or PC this
is much harder to accomplish.

As far as I can tell without sight, iTunes has a player console which is
completely separate from the file list. If the keyboard focus is on this
player console then pressing space on the play button will play and pause
the track fine.

However shifting focus away from the console to changing the music played
from the file list is extremely problematic. Moving to the file list and
pressing space on a new selected track will simply resume the playing of the
previous track I was playing and not the new selected track. Pressing enter
will also not achieve the desired result.

An option is that sometimes you can change tracks by hitting the context
menu and then finding play. This is a bit of a palaver though. However, just
as often the play option is not available and you instead get options like
create mp3 version, or view in Finder etc.

So my question is how can you change the track being played in iTunes
without tearing your hair out. Please do not simply suggest just press enter
on the track as is sometimes suggested as this simply does not work, as
others have confirmed. If pressing enter works on some setups then there
must be some other setting which needs changing so that my iTunes replicates
this behaviour.

David Griffith
