The RNIB Books have always been playable on a Mac as they are basically Mp3 files with an organising html element. In the past these mp3 files were not always named in sequential order which meant that books did not necessarily play in the right order. With the alterations books mp3 files should now always be named so that they play in the right order.
There is also a free Daisy Book Reader for the Mac who name eludes me for the moment but which I can check later.
