Hi! The Nest Protect is a smoke detector/Carbon Monochside detector which is Wi-Fi enabled thus it can work with the Nest Protect IOS App which provides the user with alerts on the status of the Nest Protect.
I don't know how accessible the system is yet but I'm willing to take a gamble as most Apps I've tried under IOS are usable and - at the very least - I'll have a working smoke detector with or without iPhone <smile>. The Nest Protect comes in 2 versions, a wired version - meaning the unit draws power from the AC mains with battery backup - and a battery version, I ordered the battery version given our voltage difference from the U.S., there's also the problem of having someone wire the thing.
