I've done the permission repair/disk repair, replaced the hard drive and
reimaged everything back over, and, this is happening on about 3 of my mac
systems, so the likelyhood of it being a ram problem is unlikely.

Have you tried a full reinstall of mavericks/ I did and although slow,
I do see a slight speed increase.
