Actually it's a lot easier then that. Set a  mskrer at 00:00 bu ogin jumpoing 
to the begingin of the file with option cmd left arrow, then hit p. Now hit 
space to play and when you hear what you want to cut out end go back a bit with 
th eleft arrow and hit p to  drop antoehr marker. I never use the cmd y and all 
of that stuff.
