Hello Bill, I use BlindSquare and love it. It updates me on where I am and tells me about nearby intersections. I use it when walking and on buses. It uses quite a bit of battery power and you have to remove it from the app switcher to stop it but it runs beautifully in the background so you can use another GPS app to get turn-by-turn instructions at the same time.
