Actually the back button is called home.  Simply tap that to  return to the 
main screen.it could not be more simpler . Also tapping on a contact's name 
will start a chat.  Iv'e done this just recently with the new interface, it 
just rocks and is for me more easier to use, also I'm noticing  less lag with 
the contact list.
