Hi Sarah

A little bit over-done here, LOL. All I need is to copy a file from one
directory to another, on the same system, or preferably just move the file with
one operation. Also I guess I’d need the delete command as well to save the
tedium of having to use the Finder.

To be utterly honest, my Linux knowledge is woefully inadequate, something
which I really do need to work on. When I first got my very first Mac way back
in early 2005, i promised myself I would get to grips with the technical side
of the thing. I also promised myself I would learn the CLI. I have, so far,
failed to live up to that second promise that I made myself. I intend to
address that inadequacy. I know of a couple of publications which deal with
using the bash interface, so I’m going to go and get those, even if I have to
buy them over again. I need to make myself more abled to deal with these
issues so that I can at least work with developers where procedures and
processes haven’t as yet been implemented into the Finder or the GUI. So thus
begins my quest for knowledge.

Try an scp. the kicker is the way in which the remote server is handled. but try

scp filename.txt user@remotehost:path/to/filename.txt

I can't remember what to do about spaces as quotes do not work at least for me.

The password will be taken care of during the scp as you will be prompted.
