Hi Sarah so even though the power button and all other ones are working it
is still this pannel problem
I know the option key works cos i press key commander and press right option
key and voiceover says option.
By the way i have a 2011 13 inch macbook pro.

Yes it is. I'm thinking your top panel of the mac book might be on the
blink as this is what happened to me I'd take your machine to an apple
store and have them look at it.
