A preamp will boost a signle from an outside source. Yu need a way to record the output of a sound card such as your iMic or what ever you hook the tv to. I don't think a preamp is what you need or everytign will sound comptessed. They have mic preamps but not sure if they have a usb sound card that will act as a preamp. I'm quite behind on that technology.
