The info regarding the 5400 vs 7200 is worth considering. I have heard
that the 7200 Maxtor drives are OK, but it is your decision. Generally
the word is that "...faster hard drives MAY be too hot for iMacs."
(emphasis mine). In any case, you can find 5400 drives today that are
pretty fast at about 9 to 9.5ms seek.

By coincidence, I just bought a copy of MacWorld UK edition. I don't
know how well your local news agency picks up British magazines, but if
you can find it it has a great 4-page article on upgrading iMacs,
including replacing the HD. Try and find the October 2001 edition, it
cost me $16 but comes with 2 CDs including a full free install of Now
Up-To-Date and Contact 3.8.3 and over 1000
Photoshop/Illustrator/Acrobat/After Effects/Quark plugins.

If you can't find it, I can give you a summary here (it's pretty brief,
but you will miss the 3 pictures). Just post under Re: Cheap... and I
will put it together.
