Can you surf the web via a browser? Like, you seem to be connecting to the internet, as the timer starts ticking away. Now... The timer causes me to confirm if you are on Bell Sympatico dial-up or high-speed? High-speed, right? As for email, you're not giving us enough info when you say that you "can't get any mail system to open." Like, surely these apps are LAUNCHING when you double-click their icons in the Finder desktop. Is it when you attempt to send or receive email when the problem occurs? Did you configure your email account settings properly within the email application's account window? Mac OS X uses all the standard internet protocols that So 9 and Windows uses. There shouldn't be a big problem. > I've reconfigured it numerous times to no avail. Well, Question One was are you getting on to even surf? > I think I should re install OS X using the CD that came with my iMac. > If you agree should I trash the Mac OS X that's on my HD? If so, how? Hmm... I honestly don't think that would make a difference. If you have an external hard drive that you could back up all your OS 9 apps, files and your System Folder, I suppose you could. But given the amount of confusion you're experiencing, I wonder if that would just exacerbate the problem, until you've had time to become more familiar with OS X. I would rather you sent me desktop pictures, off-list, of any of your account windows or error messages you get. That way, I could really see what in Heaven's name is going on. > And there is another CD that came with the iMac called Developer > tools. What does it do? Would it be of any help? No. It's only for people and companies who develop software. MacDuff -- Mac Canada is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
