Got a weird on going problem When I started not that many years ago using the basic iMac/350 Mhz slot loader; figured the way to go was to ignore Microsoft in all of its forms.
Had used a basic version of Eudora in the MS windows, box ; found the Mac version to be unsatisfactory and so latched on to the basic version of PowerMail. Loved it, and had OS 8.6 at the time... As some of these lists know my iMac died early in 2003, so I purchased an eMac, everything in one neat box that looked like a telev ision/computer... And as some know ended up with many problems because I figured extra software should not be on the machine and so erased and reformatted the hD numerous times, never learning. On 8.6 could dump unwanted files at random, with no harm done. With a six gig hD you had to get rid of files. Being old school, never used more than 3/4 a gig anyway, the rest ofthe HD was empty. The eMac had lots of hardware problems as well. Sold it at a loss back to the dealer. Bought an 800Mhz iBook with 9.2 and that fuzzy OSX hiding in the background and was told not to erase anything of the program or I'd be back where I started or ended... OK;so love the iBook, moreso than the iMac, and it is portable... The 350 iMac and the iBook, both with different versions of PowerMail do the same thing.. The iMac nad OS 8.6, the iBook OS 9.2.2... Here is what happens. I am typing this note on screen in Powermail, version 4 something.. I'll save the message and exit the program. I could then go to Appleworks to do word processing or perhaps do a dial- up to send the message... The computer will not allow me to go to any other program, including Appleworks or the dial-up program. It is as if the Power Mail program has taken over. Zapping the Pram, and/or rebuilding the desktop does nothing to solve the problem. The finder basically freezes. Have alloted lotso fmemory to everything possible..and both Macs did this. Not always, most ofthe time... The only way out is push the start button, turn off the machine and start again and everything is just fine... I think there is a problem with PowerMail; I refuse to use anything of Microsoft, too damn complicated tries to be all things to all people ie Outlook Express or similar. Now here is the kicker... If I do say word processing in Appleworks the latest or any other version, that same lock up happens after I Appleworks.and return to the finder. The computer will not do a dial-uo. Have trashed preferences numerous times, even did a complete wipe of the hard-drive after saving files, and the same darn thing happened, complete lock p. Only resolved by turning off the computer, waiting 30 seconds and starting again... OK so maybe I am jinxed as one person suggested; have lots of problems with mechanical devices... things work well until I am around and then they die, or refuse to function, bad aura or just bad?
