A belated thanks to all who replied with suggestions re my inability to send e-mail larger than 1.3 K via my Sympatico account using Mail (whereas Outlook under Classic could send same messages no problem.)

I at first tried reducing the MTU (packet size) settings from the defaul 1500 to the Sympatico default of
1492, as suggested by a couple of Mac Canada listers. Unfortunately there was no change, so I reset to the 1500 default.

What eventually got me on what proved the right track was the following suggestion from EhMac member Glenn:

Are you using a router ?? I had a similar problem with a Linksys router and sympatico. The problem was the old firmware on the Linksys Router. I upgraded the firmware on the router and was able to send email with large attachments.

Glenn

I made my way to the Airport Admin Utility (the one thing neither Sympatico tech support nor Apple tech support ever suggested I do, even though I made it clear to both I was using an Airport Base Station), and instantly a message appeared saying there was new firmware available. I clicked to install it and within seconds went from version 4.0 to 4.0.8. Whatever was in that .08 of an upgrade made all the difference. Suddenly I could send any and all Mail mail from all three Macs! Now if only those tech support folks had pointed me in that direction originally. At least i didn't fall for the desperation "try an Archive Re-Install" suggestion! (Ironically though, had I done that, I'm guessing that firmware update for the AirPort base station would have happened without my realizing it, and the whole episode would have been put down to some mysterious corrupt file which the reinstall had "cured".)

Anyway, thanks very much to all EhMac members and Mac Canada Listers who took the time to offer suggestions. I'm sure I'll be back soon with more quandaries, as my efforts to get three different Macs properly configured, in synch, and all OS X-only continue.

Cheers,

jb
