Hi James,

I think you'll have some other answers from other macusers too.

As for the upgrade, you are on the top of the preG3 models so I'll go for a G3. You could may be fit a "Mini-Tower" (Gossamer) motherboard in your 9500 or 8600 case. But it would be much more interesting to search for a "Blue&White" with native USB. You'll be much more comfortable with OSX. The "PCI graphics" which allow you to use your old PCI graphic card or the "AGP Graphics" could be the best point of entry in the used G4 line. The "AGP Graphics" could be valuable if you have interest in an accelerated graphic card as AGP is better thab PCI for that. You can check for the specs of different old models on Apple History web site for example.

As for the video card, I don't know very much about that but go to this web site http://www.xlr8yourmac.com/. You'll find all the information you need about upgrading, video card, drives, etc. As far as I know, this is the BEST site for technical stuff about Macs.

Hope this will help...

Hello everyone, I am a new member of the mailing list.

I am looking to get some help with my project.

I have a 9500/200 and a 8600/300. I use the 8600 right now. I have purchased a Sonnet G3/400 card so that I can get a machine up to 10.2.8 at least, with xpostfacto, maybe even 10.3

I wanted to get on the Canadian list because I am in Mississauga, and wanted adivce on finding bits etc.. also love to find any other mac "hobbiests" out there.

Any advice as to what machine to upgrade? What Video card do I need to run 10.2 or 10.3... I dont think the Mach64 will work will it?

Thanks
James
