Skype is mainly geared to communicating from computer to computer,
while VoIP services like Vonage mirror traditional phone to phone
communication. Both use the internet as a platform rather than the
traditional switch networks developed by telephone companies. Skype is
free when communicating PC to PC, but costs when communicating to a
telephone.
I use Vonage as I prefer to use a telephone for conversation (more
mobile) and usually call people who use telephones to communicate.
I also have a Skype account. I've never used it to communicate from my
computer to another simply because I haven't taken the time to hunt
someone down and arrange to contact him/her that way. I hear, though,
that's Skype's quality is very good at that kind of PC to PC
connection. Using Skype from a PC to call a telephone takes a quality
hit in my own experience and that is supported from what I read of
others' experience.
I mainly use Skype to call my wife from a high speed internet equipped
hotel room so that she can call me back on the Vonage line.
Both systems work. It's mainly a matter of lifestyle - what do you (and
the people you talk to) use as the basis of voice communication - a
telephone or a computer?
You could simply use both depending on your mood and how the other
person is equipped.

Hello,
I was just wondering if anybody has heard of or used Skype (http://
www.skype.com/)? Is it any good ? I was still considering getting
Vonage when I heard about Skype.
