Hi Listers

I'm looking at getting a second hand laptop for use for occasional on-site
work.

OSX compatible with a reasonable amount of go in it for Photoshop, etc.,
capable of driving a CRT monitor up to 19", and that I can plug in a
standard keyboard and mouse.

I know little about laptops so suggestions greatly appreciated.

I've an iBook G4 that I'm extremely happy with. It doesn't support dual monitors as standard, but with a patch (google 'Screen Spanning Doctor') it quite happily does 1920x1440 on my 22" CRT (although I prefer to run it at 1600x1200). Some of the older iBook G3s can do this too. It's a very cheap way of getting large monitor support without having to lay down the extra for a PowerBook.

However, if you're doing heavy Photoshop work, then you will probably be best off getting the fastest PowerBook you can, with lots of memory. My iBook seems OK with 2560x1920 images up to 8 or 9 layers, but I'm always wishing for that little bit more power - YMMV as always.

Keyboards and mice are no problem on anything with USB. Alternatively, if you have a bluetooth equipped machine, you can use the Apple Wireless Mouse & Keyboard which are very swish.
