Essentially you could back up the discs using disc utility and burn
them to 4gig DVD media using stuffit to create a multipart archive
but without a way to reconstitute the archive to disk media its a bit
of a useless process.
DVD9 is nothing to be feared there's plenty of support for the format
from Apple now that they supply DL burners in their machines and they
are fully supported under Tiger
