On some electronics that John Lewis sell there is a 'free' 2 year warranty
so that may be worth checking out at your local store...if you don't go for
applecare extension.

(seems there is only one year on iPods from the website but who knows...ask
in store...)

Of course there is always the alternative to support your local Apple rep
even if it costs a quid or two extra (if they seem to offer excellent
customer service in general) as not only would you be supporting a good
cause... if you ever have any problems they would be far more likely to sort
it out then and there instead of having to talk to an Irish or otherwise
call centre and then ship it off to wonder if you will ever see it again!
