Deep down I am a little disappointed. I had the money set aside for a
12" PowerBook, but of course, they did not get updated. I could go
15", but it is overkill for my needs (since I have a PowerMac with
20" widescreen TFT). I am now vacillating between the iBook as a stop-
gap measure, and just throwing all caution to the wind and plumping
for the 15" PowerBook.
UK pricing seems to have witnessed some reductions with these
'upgrades', although that is to be expected in light of the stagnant
clock speed.
The 12" model is £1099 - but that comes with SuperDrive and 80GB hard
drive - basically the same as the high-end 12" model that retailed
for £1199 earlier today.
The 15" model is £1399 - this comes with SuperDrive and 80GB hard
drive, and of course the new high-resolution screen. The previous top-
end 15" model (with same clock speed) was £1579. The price drop is
nice - £180, but actually more when you counter in the 128MB video
RAM that was only optional on this model last time round. So for less
money you get a double layer DVD burner, higher resolution screen, a
bit more battery life, a bit more video RAM, and allegedly more
brightness on the screen. It is not exactly a rip-roaring upgrade (a
2GHz 7448 G4 would have sealed the deal, and I personally would have
paid an extra £180 for that), but it does represent good value
compared to what you could have got yesterday.
