Yes, I've noticed an increase in use by the programming/ software development community. Within the bunch of software geeks I hang out with on IRC, a majority have purchased a Mac for the first time in the last couple of years. As you say, the *nix underpinnings have their attractions. That said, two or three of my pals bought iBooks and were stung by the widespread motherboard-death problem, which left them cursing Apple's name for a long time.
