I had a chat about it with one of the staff, and he genuinely seemed not to know about the secret spec change - his first reaction was to assume that they'd put out the wrong information cards. I told him what I knew about the story, and then we got on to which version they had for sale there. He said he didn't know, of course, but he did say something interesting: some days earlier it had been him who had set up one of the Minis that was on display, and he had simply grabbed a Mini from the sales stock; there was no special stock for display purposes.

It sounds like Apple are just digging into their stock of laptop 1.5GHz chips they've ordered from Motorola (doesn't the mini have a similar motherboard to the iBook?). Maybe the Intel iBooks/PowerBooks are coming sooner rather than later and there are plenty of G4s to use up.

Same with the 64MB ATi chipsets?
