My Wallstreet also has USB and FireWire cards that I bought for it some time ago, as well as the wifi card. I use it when I want internet access downstairs, away from my iMac, but I am thinking that something a bit more compact would be nicer. I do love the keyboard, but I bought a replacement battery from an eBay seller, World2Power, which my Wallstreet doesn't like. It charged up but won't power the laptop and I gather this is a Wallstreet problem. I would really like a laptop that doesn't come with built-in problems. I'm trying to remember the routine that involves "reset nvram" in case that helps - can anyone jog my memory, please? I did use it once but had immense trouble getting the screen to come up, as it involves using rather a lot of fingers simultaneously, I seem to recall! Yes, I think the G4 is overpriced and am watching it to see if he reduces the price again; I have asked how that crack happened, but if he dropped it he may not admit to it. Also, the software he is offering is irrelevant without the installation disks. If it came cheaply enough, I would be interested though. I don't like the iBook much (my husband has a fairly early one), especially its keyboard.

I'm watching a G4 PowerBook which is being re-listed, but am nervous about a hairline crack in the plastic surround of the DVD slot, in case the PB has been dropped. If I did buy it, would the PCMCIA card that is now in my Wallstreet also fit this item? I attach the link and would be grateful for any comments:

The PCMCIA card should fit. However, what are you using it for? - you might find that there are already sockets/capability in the Powerbook that replace whatever you were using the card for. For example, my younger daughter's Lombard has two cards which are swapped around as needed: a Wifi card, and a Firewire card. In practice, recent Powerbooks provide both functions internally thus negating the need for either card.

More to the point, I'm not sure that this Powerbook is worth £400. Given that 1.3 Ghz G4 iBooks can be bought new for £700, and a 1.5 Ghz G4 Mini can be had for just over £400, this seems a lot for a damaged machine about 3 years old or so.

Of course, if you can get it cheap via the auction then that would be different. But I see that there's a reserve on it, which might well be set at something silly like £395.....
