I'm with Pickle - didn't renew my iTools/.mac account, but before it
expired, I noticed that I was getting more spam than earlier (hadn't
given it out very many places, so I was only getting regularly from one
friend). Wonder how many accounts the spammers set a robot to find by
HomePages on iTools, maybe? Anyway, for me it is a very moot point. Once
I knew I wasn't going to be continuing the account and had notified my
friends, I turned off forwarding from mac.com. Who knows how much spam
was left on my old account by the end of September???

Think the key is what's already been mentioned here - accept that the
jerks (spammers) will every so often find our e-mail addresses, don't (do
*not*) reply to them, even the ones that assure you that you are on their
list because you opted in somewhere (yeah, right - in a galaxy far away,
in another time dimension, maybe! ;-) Periodically, if the spammer uses
what looks like a valid e-mail address, I'll forward the whole thing
(long headers and all) to this address and sic the federales on them:

<[EMAIL PROTECTED]> (our beloved Federal Trade Commission)

or to a specific ISP, if the spammers were really, *really* stupid:

<[EMAIL PROTECTED]> for AOL addies
<[EMAIL PROTECTED]> for MSN addies
<[EMAIL PROTECTED]> for Mindspring addies
<[EMAIL PROTECTED]> for Earthlink addies

HTH,

Jim Rohde
