I'm new to OpenOffice. I've just installed the program, but opted to
not "convert" System/open fonts for use in OpenOffice. Is there a way
to access this option to do it once the application has been
installed?
Since there was no information available about what this option was
for or how it really works, I figured it was safer to bypass it. Now,
however, none of my activated fonts are available to use (I manage
all fonts via Suitcase, and exercise extreme caution when an
application wants to take over handling typefaces).
The conversion converts some types of fonts and makes some other
types available to OpenOffice.org. The original fonts are not
modified at all. They are only read or copied from their original
location.
The converted fonts are made available in the folders:
/Applications/OpenOffice.org 2.1.app/Contents/MacOS/share/fonts/truetype
~/Library/Application Support/OpenOffice.org 2.1/user/fonts/
Inside these folders, you will find a text file with "fondu" in it's
name. Deleting these files will allow you to re-run the font
conversion, if like yourself you declined it the first time, or if
you add some more fonts. After deleting these empty text files, start
OpenOffice.org again.
