Aqua is Mac OS X 10.4
With X11 we are trying to keep it compiling on Mac OS X 10.3.9
for as long as we can, though we do not guarantee that it will
work on Mac OS X 10.3.9.
I thought that once that big aqua CWS is integrated in SRC680mXYZ
there will no longer be an X11 version for Mac OS X (which would
imply that the baseline then has to be at least 10.4 from
SRC680mXYZ onwards).
The aqua CWS will be integrated in the next month or two, to make
sure that there is not a CWS that is too big being integrated.
Aqua will not be complete and ready for public consumption in a
production environment at integration. There are some people who
still need the X11 version for certain things, such as certain
[OpenType] fonts, and remote use, using X11 forwarding.
There will probably be at least one release of ooo, where there
will be both an X11 version and Aqua version released, for those
who don't want to do the change away from X11 immediately.
Thanks for clarifying. How will the existence of two versions be
reflected in the code base? A configure switch and conditional
blocks in makefiles and C/C++ sources?
Yes
That is done that way already.
After we drop the support for the X11 version, the X11 code won't
magically disappear.
